Two RJM projects are among 50 honorees chosen to be included in Finance & Commerce’s Top Projects of 2019.
According to F&C, judges chose projects based on the degree of difficulty, creativity in design, innovative construction techniques, cooperation among contractors and management, and sustainability efforts.
The Nordic and Sable project is a blend of superior detail and craftmanship, historical character, and contemporary design fitting in with the North Loop neighborhood in Minneapolis.
The site was successfully developed into two complexes: The Nordic, with offices and retail, and The Sable, featuring micro-unit condominiums. The building is connected to an underground parking garage and features a four-season public plaza, which provides much needed green space for the neighborhood. The project retains the century-old brick character of the historic neighborhood while adding modern amenities to the densely populated area.
The Nordic and Sable creates an energetic, vibrant sense of community to an area within the neighborhood that was previously very disconnected. The building site previously served as a surface parking lot for the tenants in the adjacent Loose Wiles building and was essentially an island of parked vehicles.
The Nordic is one of Minnesota’s first registered WELL projects and its design and construction demonstrate the importance of the health and well-being of its tenants. Strategies include dramatic decreases in volatile organic compounds (VOCs), increased fresh air and daylighting, biophilic design elements, and flexible work environments. The success of the project was as a result of all project partners pushing for the same goal and aligning efforts through each phase. The Nordic has provided new tax dollars and job growth and is a wonderful new asset to the North Loop area.
The City of Woodbury and the City of Cottage Grove hired RJM Construction to oversee the new regional training facility for police, fire, and emergency medical services.
HERO Center provides one central location to bring all safety responders, both locally and regionally, together in a safe, state-of-the-art facility. The training center includes classrooms, a shooting range, canine training yard, a large vehicle maneuvering area for apparatus and extractions, virtual reality, and two mock house structures.
Finance & Commerce will celebrate all 2019 honorees on July 23, 2020 at Nicollet Island Pavilion.
