As part of Major League Baseball and Minnesota Twins’ Community Legacy Effort, RJM Construction renovating Jerry Gamble Boys & Girls Club

May 2, 2014

MINNEAPOLIS (May 1, 2014) — RJM Construction, a Minneapolis-based general contractor, announces its work on the Jerry Gamble Boys & Girls club as part of the 2014 All-Star community legacy effort. The North Minneapolis renovation project is part of $8 million effort by MLB Charities, the Minnesota Twins, the Twins Community Fund and the Pohlad Family Foundation to fund local projects and national charitable initiatives.

Major League Baseball and the Minnesota Twins recently announced that the 2014 All-Star community legacy effort will be the most extensive in Midsummer Classic history, in both number of projects and funding committed. A significant portion of 2014 MLB All-Star Summer lasting legacy donations are focused on communities throughout the Greater Twin Cities area to fund worthy projects and causes, including Jerry Gamble Boys & Girls Club, part of the Boys & Girls Club Twin Cities.

Located at 2410 Irving Avenue North in Minneapolis, the Jerry Gamble Boys & Girls Club provides activities and support to North Minneapolis youth from kindergarten through high school graduation. With RJM Construction as the general contractor on the project, the renovation at the Jerry Gamble Boys & Girls Club will transform a currently unusable, cracked indoor pool into a multipurpose room to increase and enhance the club’s sports, health and performing arts activities. Construction began in April and will be complete by the July 15 MLB All-Star Game.

The space at Jerry Gamble had been vacant for ten years. “We had half of a building, more than 20,000 sq. ft., we could not use,” said Erin Carlin, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities president and CEO. “It was vacant and locked up in an area of the city where kids do not have enough recreational space.”

Renovations carried out by RJM Construction include: filling in and covering the pool area; and installing a synthetic floor for multi-use athletic space, a new scoreboard, new lighting and windows, bleachers, a stairway to the balcony, an air handler unit for locker rooms, HVAC system and a concessions area.

All initiatives and projects will be unveiled leading up to the 85th MLB All-Star Game, airing LIVE on FOX on Tuesday, July 15.
