MINNEAPOLIS (August 31, 2016) — RJM Construction, a Minneapolis-based general contractor, has been selected by Beacon Academy, a K-8 Charter School, to remodel a vacant parochial school as their new permanent home. RJM will also build a 16,000 square-foot addition to the facility to accommodate the growing charter school’s needs.
Beacon Academy will be moving from their current school in Maple Grove to Crystal. The new facility will hold 40 classrooms, a media center, gymnasium space and a performing arts center. Opening in the fall of 2017, Beacon Academy will have a gradual increase from two sections of each grade to three sections of each grade.
“We are committed to providing a results-driven community, built around a culture of positive character development and committed parental involvement,” stated Sean Koster, Beacon Academy principal. “This new facility will help us to grow while maintaining a small learning community.”
Interior demolition began earlier this month, making way for improved circulation and finish upgrades. The project also includes new mechanical systems, site improvements and exterior building repairs. Crews will begin constructing the addition September 6.
In addition to RJM, the project team includes owner’s representative Cushman and Wakefield / NorthMarq and designer Rivera Architects, Inc.
