RJM’s Healthcare Team Nears Completion of Major Patient Room Modernization at Methodist Hospital

June 29, 2021

We are excited to announce that RJM Construction is now nearing completion of Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital’s 4th Floor Patient Room Modernization project. This is the fourth and final phase of a 40,000 SF full gut and remodel that includes the build-out of over 60 private patient rooms and support areas, MEP infrastructure upgrades, and exterior window replacement. At this time as we head toward the final finishes, we have all trades involved to meet our September 2021 completion date.

This completion of the 4th-floor project will be the last of the Master Planning started in 2012 to modernize all the patient floors from 4-8.

We kicked off the 4th-floor project in 2018 and it was originally scheduled to be completed in two phases with an 18-month construction duration. As construction progressed early on in the first phase, Methodist saw an increased demand for patient beds, so additional phases were added, and the project timeline was modified from two phases to four. Just as construction was transitioning from phase 3 to phase 4, in early March of 2020, the pandemic hit, and the project was put on hold until March of 2021.

The nature of the COVID-19 virus prompted PNHS’s evaluation of incorporating AIIR (Airborne Infection Isolation Rooms) into the project scope. During the final phase we modified the HVAC design and systems so that they could easily convert the rooms to AIIR rooms if required. The planning and installation of this additional equipment into the small plenum ceiling space required extensive coordination and thought from the project team. The team worked closely to ensure AIIR functionality would be up and running as needed.

RJM’s healthcare team is sensitive to the needs of patients and staff in occupied working spaces. In order to complete all the plumbing work, we had shut down the patient room on the floor below. While this took extra time and coordination with staff, our number one priority was patient safety and clear communication with user groups.

Rodney Hintz, project executive, Bryce Kamenick, project engineer, Ed Klenotich, superintendent, and the entire project team is honored to work with the Methodist Hospital team once again to help further improve their campus for staff, patients, and families.
