Why is it important to have male advocates in the construction industry?

March 10, 2023

According to the National Association of Women in Construction, women make up about 11% of the construction industry workforce and that number is looking to grow this year. As we celebrate Women in Construction Week 2023, we must also look to the men who have advocated for, supported, and encouraged the growth of women in the construction industry. Not only does that support increase the percentage of women in the industry, it also helps the workforce in these five ways:

Improves Workplace Culture

They can help create a more inclusive and supportive workplace culture where employees feel valued, respected, and empowered to do their best work.

Increases Diversity and Inclusion

The advocates for diversity within the industry will help attract and retain talented women in construction. In turn, they are building a more robust and diverse industry.

Offers Better Support and Resources

They can help identify and address the unique challenges and barriers women face in construction, such as bias, discrimination, and harassment. They will work to provide better support and resources to overcome these challenges.

Enhances Innovation and Creativity

By creating a more diverse and inclusive workforce, it will lead to more significant innovation and creativity. When individuals from different backgrounds and perspectives bring new ideas and approaches to the company, it will lead to better solutions and outcomes for the industry.

Improves Business Outcomes

It can positively impact business outcomings, such as increased profitability, productivity, and customer satisfaction. It can also enhance a company’s reputation, leading to long-term success and sustainability.
