Bruce Vento Elementary

The recent closure of St. Paul Public School’s John A Johnson Elementary has caused a significant increase in enrollment at Bruce Vento Elementary.

To accommodate this increase in enrollment, RJM will be undertaking a 5-phase project to expand the school. This project entails constructing a new K-5 school and early learning hub that spans over 170,000 square feet and can accommodate approximately 800 students. The new building will be located to the east of the existing one. After the new building is completed, the existing building will be demolished to make way for play areas, parking, and parent drop-off and pick-up lanes.

The new Bruce Vento Elementary is scheduled to open in the fall of 2025. As its name suggests, the school honors the memory of Bruce Vento, a former Congressman from Minnesota who was renowned for his advocacy for environmental issues. The construction of the new building will prioritize environmental sustainability, much like Congressman Vento, with a focus on thermal resistance and careful sustainable material selection. The new building’s primary heating and cooling mechanism is currently planned around a proprietary Darcy geothermal system.
