After the renovation of the Community Center, the City of Shoreview and LHB developed a master plan for the first phase of improvements on Commons Park.

Once again the Shoreview team hired RJM to build the park expansion, which creates sustainability and recreation opportunities for the growing community. The new outdoor space complements the recently expanded Community Center and provides improved connections to the Ramsey County Regional Library. New trails and sidewalks throughout the site allow residents and visitors alike to easily gain access between facilities and access to the nearby regional trail system. Located next to the existing Haffeman Pavilion is a brand-new pond and garden area. Features also include a new skate park, full-size soccer field, tennis and basketball courts, a neighborhood playground area, and picnic shelter.

Boring samples were completed before the project began, and when the team started work, the water table was four feet higher than the boring samples noted, due to the abundant rainfall that occurred right before the project commenced. The team worked closely with the subcontractors to reevaluate the schedule and sequence the subcontractor to stay on schedule.
